Migrations

Bring your existing client websites with you.

A WordPress migration service that consolidates scattered installs into one agency infrastructure. Sensible process, honest expectations. No zero-downtime fairy tales, no surprise invoices mid-move.

  • Staging before DNS
  • Rollback path per site
  • Email left intact
The process

Four steps, in the right order.

The order matters more than the speed. Copy first, verify second, point DNS third, cancel the old host last.

  1. Inventory

List every site, current hosting provider, domain, email dependency and plugin risk. Decide the order: biggest or most business-critical sites first, so the hard cases get the most attention.

  2. Stage & verify

Copy files and database, then test properly: contact forms, checkout, search, logins, redirects, third-party embeds. Fix paths and SSL before anything touches DNS.

  3. Cut over

Go live in a low-traffic window, flip DNS, watch propagation, keep the old site reachable until the new one is confirmed. A rollback plan stays on the table for every site.

  4. Consolidate

Cancel the old hosting accounts, standardise billing into your HostRider capacity, and update your own client list so the next renewal date is one date, not twenty.

What we need from you

Site list
URLs + hosts
Access
WP admin or SSH/SFTP
Known quirks
Custom plugins, cron jobs
Email provider
So DNS stays safe
Preferred window
Low-traffic hours

Nobody sees a broken page and nobody sees a maintenance banner. The old site keeps serving traffic until the new one answers correctly. That is the whole point of staging first.

Inside a move

What actually gets checked before go-live.

The boring checklist is the reason a migration looks effortless from the client's side.

Files & database

Full copy including uploads, themes, plugins and custom tables. Large media libraries and multisite setups are handled deliberately, not by drag-and-drop.

Forms, checkout & logins

Every form gets a real submission. Checkout gets a real test order. Password resets and client logins are confirmed working before the switch.

Redirects & SEO

Permalinks, old URLs and canonical tags checked so the site that arrives in search results is the same site your client paid for.

SSL & security

Certificates issued, mixed-content warnings eliminated, and hardcoded references to the old host cleaned out of the codebase.

Performance baseline

Cache and compression reviewed after the move. If a site turns out to be heavier than the rest, Website Turbo goes on that site only.

Post-move watch

The first days after a cutover are when small things surface. You know where to look, because we wrote down what changed.

Honest expectations

What we will not tell you.

We will not claim every migration is instant, free and invisible. Portfolios differ: a plugin that phones home, a host that throttles exports, or a client who edits their blog mid-move are all real constraints. What we do promise is a plan you can see, verification before cutover, and a rollback that stays available until you are satisfied. If a migration is a bad idea for a particular site, you will hear that before the work starts.

Plugin, host or service

Three ways to move a WordPress site, and when each one is right.

A migration plugin costs nothing and works fine for one simple site. The calculus changes at portfolio scale.

A migration plugin

Free, familiar, and fine when the site is simple and you can watch it closely. What you own: the DNS order, the email, the permalinks and a rollback path if the transfer fails halfway.

A host-assisted move

Your new host copies files and database, usually on a schedule you do not control. Works when the old host cooperates and nothing exotic is installed. The gaps appear at DNS, at email, and on the second site of the list.

A professional migration service

Inventory first, staging verification, DNS planned around email, a go-live sequence and rollback readiness. Built for ten sites, fifty sites or a WooCommerce store with live orders.

Moving a portfolio rather than a site? Agencies usually migrate in batches with a shared go-live calendar, and the done-for-you version lives on the services page as Website Migration.

Migration FAQ

Before you send the site list.

Do you offer free migrations?

It depends on plan and volume. Send your site count and the hosts you are leaving and you get a scoped answer instead of a blanket promise. Some portfolios are a straightforward afternoon, others need a staged plan across several weeks.

Will there be downtime?

We plan for minimal disruption and we will not promise impossible zero-downtime on every DNS scenario. Staging first keeps the risk low: sites are copied and verified before a single record changes.

What about email?

Email normally stays where it is. We sequence DNS so mail keeps flowing while the website moves, and we tell you exactly which records to leave alone.

How long does moving many sites take?

Sensible batches, biggest sites first. A handful of brochure sites can move in one sitting; twenty WooCommerce stores with custom plugins get staged over a few weeks, in an order we agree with you up front.

What if something breaks?

Nothing goes live until it is verified on staging, and each site keeps a rollback path until the old host is cancelled. You decide when the old setup is switched off.

Plan the move before the busy season.

Send the site list and current hosts. You get an order of operations, a realistic window and a fixed scope.

Staging first · DNS second · Old host cancelled last
